Katherine Tourism

Katherine is home to a number of beautiful natural attractions. The Katherine Springs, located on the Victoria Highway just a short drive from the town centre of Katherine, are a popular swimming spot for locals and tourists alike. They consist of approximately six pools, each a different size, shape and depth, with the very top pool being where the spring water comes out of the ground at a warm temperature. As the water cascades over each little rock wall, the water cools down considerably, finishing in a deep pool beside shaded grassed areas.

The popular Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) is only 30kms from the town and plays host to over 200,000 visitors each year. They host a variety of boat tours, canoe hire, hiking, helicopter flights and a visitors information centre. One of the popular spots for swimming is the Southern Rockhole.

Other attractions in Katherine include the ancient Cutta Cutta CavesEdith Falls, The Katherine Icon - Sabu Singh statue, the Katherine Museum, Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre, Low Level Nature Reserve and the Katherine River. The Katherine River winds through the centre of town is ideal for barramundi fishing.
